NORTH MIAMI AND NANAY, INC. TEAM UP TO HOST HEALTH & WELLNESS FAIR

North Miami, FL - February 27, 2004 -

Everyone interested in fitness and well being can certainly take the proper steps towards good health by attending the FREE Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 13, 2004, sponsored by the City of North Miami Parks and Recreation Department and NANAY, Inc.

The fair will take place at the grand opening celebration of the NANAY Health Center, located at 12340 NE 6th Court, in North Miami. Nurses and doctors from the NANAY Health Center will provide FREE blood pressure check up and screenings for glucose, cholesterol, osteoporosis and more. Activities will include fitness demonstrations and tips, water safety education and the Parks and Recreation Department Director's Walk in the Park Fitness Walk, which is an 8-mile walk that visits many of the parks on the city's eastside -- water and rest stops are provided along the way! The South Florida Blood Bank will also be there for those that wish to donate to our local blood supply.

Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided by Here Comes the Sun restaurant and Man's Health is God's Wealth store, both also located in North Miami.

This event has been made possible by the City of North Miami and NANAY, Inc., in partnership with the State of Florida Department of Health, Miami-Dade Alliance for Human Services, Alliance for Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, the National Asian Women's Health Organization, the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs, and Doctors Plus Medical Center.

The grand opening of NANAY Health Center will also coincide with the re-opening of the NANAY South Center services in South Kendall area, coordinated by NANAY's Program Director, Dr. Rose del Rosario, in partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

The Health Center is a new initiative of NANAY, Inc. that will provide a full range of preventive, primary and supplemental health services to the medically underserved, regardless of their ability to pay. Its goal is to improve patient outcomes related to diabetes management, hypertension and cardiovascular disease prevention, and immunizations. Access to quality health services will include geriatric, gynecological and well-child care, health education and counseling, free transport pick up, case management and provision of medical care for non-life-threatening illnesses or minor injuries.
