NANAY SOUTH REOPENS ON MARCH
13 Miami, Florida- March 5, 2004 Every Saturday, beginning March 13, 2004, NANAY will again be providing free special services in South Dade for those ages 60 and older, as a joint project with Our Lady of the Lourdes Church. The project includes social activities, medical check-ups, workshops on life and health issues, exercises, dance lessons, recreation, intergenerational programs and cross-cultural interactions. These services are open to all seniors who come from different ethnic, linguistic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. NANAY initially opened its South Center in a strip mall as a satellite program last year, but had to close operations temporarily due to budget cuts. With the support of Father Fernando Isern and his parishioners, this new " Golden Agers Project" will now be held every Saturday from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the Music Classroom of Our Lady of the Lourdes Church, located at 11291 SW 142 Avenue, Miami, Florida. "I am excited about this partnership and this opportunity to once again help our seniors in the South," says Dr. Rose del Rosario, NANAY's Program Director who will be coordinating and directing the activities. "Perhaps, in due time and with some additional funding, we can eventually re-grow and develop it again into a full program." Lucia Lumacang will serve as the Parnership Liaison between the Church and NANAY, assisted by NANAY South Advisory Board Chair Dr. Dory Estanislao (Chair), Board members Charing Estoque, Ely Segui, Tino Arteza and two church members to be appointed by Father Isern. Teresita Kenyon from South Kendall directed the program last year. The Opening of the NANAY South Center will coincide with the grand opening of the NANAY Health Center in North Miami, a couple of blocks away from the NANAY Community Center.
