HEALTH FOUNDATION OF SOUTH FLORIDA Grants Funding for Health Center in North Miami

Preventive and Primary Health Care Now Available to Medically Underserved and Uninsured

Miami, Florida –October 1, 2004 - NANAY, Inc. announced today the full operation of its NANAY Health Center located at 12340 NE 6 Court in North Miami, Florida, with funding from the Health Foundation of South Florida.

NANAY Health Center will now provide a full range of preventive, primary and supplemental health services to the medically underserved, regardless of their ability to pay. Its goal is to improve patient outcomes related to diabetes management, hypertension and cardiovascular disease prevention, and immunizations. Access to quality health services will include geriatric, gynecological and well-child care, health education and counseling, transport pick up, case management and provision of medical care for non-life-threatening illnesses or minor injuries. Immunization outreach is anticipated to begin in late October or early November, when vaccine supplies are received from the State of Florida Department of Health.

In March, 2004, NANAY Health Center begun providing weekend health services with the help of professional volunteers. Beginning in October 1, NANAY Health Center will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The full expansion of services at the NANAY Health Center was made possible through a $106,000 funding from the Health Foundation of South Florida to support a full-time Nurse Practitioner and ancillary operational expenses.

The high cost of medical care, lack of medical insurance, and need for preventive and primary health care are major issues that we are now happy and able to address, with support from our funders."

Health Foundation of South Florida, a not-for-profit grantmaking foundation, is dedicated to expanding access to affordable, quality health care and providing funding that directly benefits the health and well being of underserved individuals in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has awarded more than $42 million in grants and direct program support.

NANAY, Inc. (National Alliance to Nurture the Aged and the Youth) is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization founded in 1994 to promote the welfare and well- being of elders, youth and the community. The NANAY Community Center is located in North Miami, two blocks away from the Health Center. NANAY Health Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) affiliate organization of NANAY, Inc. established in 2003 for the purpose of promoting health and providing health-related services to the underserved and disadvantaged population in Florida.

NANAY’s health project is also partially supported by the Alliance for Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, Florida Department of Elder Affairs, Miami-Dade County Alliance for Human Services, Miami-Dade County Department of Health, and State of Florida Department of Health.
