NANAY Gives Health Screening at
Chinese New Year Festival
MIAMI, Florida - In the midst of fanfare and colorful celebration of
Chinese New Year Festival that was organized by Chinese Cultural
Foundation and Organization of Chinese Americans at Miami Dade College
South Campus on February 12, more than 60 elders took advantage of the
health screening and health counseling provided by NANAY Health Center,
in partnership with the Philippine Nurses Association of South Florida
and the Asian American Health Professional Association of
Florida. Almost half of the elders examined had hypertension, some
controlled by medications.
"People should be constantly aware of the need to control their
blood pressure and prevent the complications of stroke and heart
disease," says Dr. Joy Bruce, President of NANAY Inc and NANAY Health
Center, Inc.
NANAY also had brochures and informational sheets on immunization at
the health booth, with the goal of controlling preventable disease like
flu, pneumonia and hepatitis (which is prevalent among Asians).
Additional Flu shots and health screening will be given at the 15th
Annual Asian Cultural Festival on March 5-6,
in partnership with Maxim Health Systems and the Thai
American Association of South Florida. A Community Health Fair will be
held in North Miami on March 19, co-sponsored by the City of North
Miami.
