Miami, Florida - January 25, 2005 The newly established Asian American Health Professional Association of South Florida is pleased to announced its new officers elected during their first Annual meeting at the NANAY Health Center on January 22, 2005: EXECUTIVE OFFICERS: Dr. Joy Bruce (President/Chair), Dr. Ming Young (Vice-President), Karen Balauat, RN (Secretary), Nena Forte RN (Treasurer). DIRECTORS: John Balauat, Evelyn Bruce, Helen Kranzel, ARNP; Joy Prachayasatierkul RN, Bennie Trinidad, Dr. B-Chen Wen, Dr. Antonio Wong. Also known as the Asian Health Professionals, this new organization aims to (1) provide preventive, primary, and specialized health care to the underserved Asian communities especially, but not exclusively, in South Florida; (2) improve the quality of care by Asian American Health Professionals through continuing education ; and (3) enhance the professional growth of Asian American health care providers. "We are very excited about it and we are inspired by Dr. Bruce's dedication to community service," says Asian Health Professional Vice President Dr. Ming Young, who is also Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine-Jackson Memorial Hospital. The membership committee is headed by Antonio Wong, M.D., Founder and Medical Director of Doctors Plus Medical Center in Pembroke Pines and the Urgent Care and Walk-In Center in Silver Lakes. The Asian Health Professionals plans to hold a community workshop on Immunization at the NANAY Community Center on February 19, 2005 and another community workshop on Heart disease and Stroke at the Asian Cultural Festival in Fruit and Spice Park on March 5, 2005. A health booth will also be set up, in partnership with NANAY and the Philippine Nurses Association, at the Chinese New Year Festival in Miami-Dade College - Kendall Campus on February 13, 2005. A Health Fest will be held in front of the NANAY Health Center in North Miami on March 19, 2005.
