NANAY Meets
Philippine Labor AttacheMiami,
FL - Nov 2005
On November 2, 2005, NANAY Community Center had a
courtesy visit from the new Philippine Labor Attache, Mrs. Linda
Herrera, who flew from Washington DC to explore the possibility of
opening up a Philippine Labor Office in Florida.
On November 3, 2005 the
Labor Attache (LaBat) met with Philippine
American Federation President Ric Garcia and NaFFAA
Florida Chair Ernesto Ramos at TATAY's
restaurant, along with 18 members and leaders of the
Filipino community in Miami and Broward, to discuss the various issues
affecting the Fil-Am community in South Florida, including the plight of
overseas Filipino workers.

Officer Jun Pascua introduced the idea of helping
the Filipino seamen by providing workshops on safety regulations and
police issues that could help seamen who are not yet knowledgeable about
U.S. security laws. NaFFAA Florida Chair Ernie Ramos also offered to
provide workshops and assistance in filling out legal forms to help the
seamen. The Trade Attache expressed her appreciation for the support of
the Filipino leadership in Miami, and was pleased to know that the
leadership within the Filipino community in South Florida was strong,
united and pro-active in helping constituents who are in need.
