NANAY San Francisco Holds Event at Woolf House San Francisco, CA - Oct 2005 Every second Saturday of the month, Nanay SF goes to the Woolf House in 4th and Howard to do our monthly Nanay activity. As with all Nanay SF events, this particular day on October 8, 2005 was filled with laughter, fun, camaraderie, dancing, and eating. Three Nanay volunteers, Margie Ortigas, Ernie Espiritu, and Anne Marie Cruz were there to help coordinate the day. However, it is noteworthy to acknowledge that the seniors took ownership of the tasks. Mrs. Dolores Bondad, a resident and active member of Nanay SF, delegated another senior to take attendance and give nametags to attendees. The food (sandwiches, pancit, and menudo) was prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Bondad, and Margie. Likewise, the food table, music, and room were set-up by the seniors. After eating our merienda, Anne Marie Cruz welcomed the guests. We celebrated the August, September, and October birthdays by acknowledging the celebrants with a birthday song and a small gift. Then, Ernie Espiritu hosted the game called ?Show Me.? Three teams, consisting of 6 people each, were formed. A list of 7 tasks was given to each team, with each task to be performed by at least one person from the team. The team with the ?best? overall performance of each task was named the winner. Maria Magat, a first-time Nanay attendee, judged the performance. The game was filled with laughter and fun as each team tried to outdo each other with the ?Ocho-ocho? dance, singing the Philippine and US National anthem, whistling, patting their head and rubbing their stomach at the same time, standing on one leg while keeping a finger on their nose for 5 seconds, and snapping their fingers.
In the end, Team 2 was named the winner. The grand prize of $5 was awarded to each member of the winning team. The rest of the participants got a consolation prize. As always, everyone in Nanay is a winner, and no one goes home empty-handed. The day ended with dancing. Ernie taught the ?line cha-cha? to the eager seniors. Friendship? connection?memories? smiles? Nanay SF continues to thrive!!
