Pathologist Wins Award for Community Service
 Jocelyn
Bruce, M.D., professor of pathology, was honored by the Women?s
History Coalition of Miami-Dade County at its annual ?Women of
Impact XXI? awards ceremony on March 12 in Coral Gables.
Bruce was selected for her contributions to the community which
include the founding in 1994 of NANAY, Inc., which stands for
National Alliance to Nurture the Aged and the Youth, and
provides supportive services for older citizens. She has also
served as a mentor and role model for young women and in
particular minority women interested in the medical field.
?It's a great honor to be acknowledged among those women who
have made a positive impact on other people's lives in our
community,? Dr. Bruce said about the award.
Bruce has been a neuropathologist and a pediatric pathologist at
the Miller School since 1982. She has published books and
peer-reviewed journal articles in her areas of expertise, which
include research i nto better care for spinal cord injuries,
brain cancer and Parkinson?s disease.
?Dr. Bruce displayed boundless energy, which together with a
first-class intellect has evolved into an impressive degree of
scientific and clinical productivity,? said Michael Norenberg,
M.D., professor of pathology at the Miller School. ?If that were
not enough, she has managed somehow to pour her heart into the
community.?
